I am assuming this is a one off case as sometimes the workflow gets stuck and behaves weirdly
I am not sure of a permanent fix for this .But can give you a workaround for it ..
To remove the Work item from the SC requester 's inbox do the following :
Follow the steps below I have also created an article for the same . Please refer that as well if you have some time .
Different methods for handling Work items --in error / to restart/ to delete
1, Find the Work item ID .. go to SWI5
2. Find the work item ID corresponding to the SC from the list :
3. now go to SWIA with this Work item ID
4. Double click on the above it will take you to this screen ,.. and now select GOTO Technical work item display
5. Select from Menu Bar >> EDIT >> CHANGE and then logically delete:
